With AIM Weekend and our annual January Crab Feed behind us, February found members of Pacific Empire Chorus kicking it into high gear for contest season. We recently returned from Walker Creek Ranch in idyllic West Marin where we spent a gorgeous and mostly SUNNY weekend getting away from it all and taking in the quiet solitude of this beautiful area. But, of course, it really wasn’t THAT quiet! When we weren’t rehearsing and listening to the pearls of wisdom spoken in animated fashion by our coach, Awesome Joe Connelly, we were talking, dancing, eating, singing tags, and revving up the karaoke machine.

We hope you all had a warm and wonderful holiday season and are making some great resolutions for the New Year. We had a very busy December filled with many community performances including singing for the Fabulous Women of Petaluma fundraiser, caroling for members of the Petaluma Yacht Club, joining the Napa Valley Harmonizers (our director Patty Pennycook’s all male chorus) for their annual winter show, and bringing a little holiday cheer to the seniors at Springfield Place. We also had time for our own holiday party where we exchanged gifts and ate lots of yummy holiday treats.
Greetings from the Pacific Empire Chorus. Whether you’re performing out in the community, learning new songs, or preparing for competition, we hope you are all having a productive and fun summer. We sure are. On July 1st, we were lucky enough to be part of the entertainment at San Rafael’s Marin County Fair! We rocked the Three Twins Ice Cream Stage giving a rousing performance right in time for Independence Day. We entertained the audience with everything from Carole King’s “I Feel the Earth Move” to “With A Little Help from my Friends” by the Beatles. The crowd really got going during our rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered”, with many fair goers dancing and singing right along with us.
When Wendy Gibson, chief PEC cheerleader, challenged chorus members to perform as an octet at January AIM she was as surprised as anyone at what happened. Many of us rose to the occasion and represented PEC with not one but four different octets! What fun we all had coming up with a theme, choosing music and costumes, and rehearsing, rehearsing, rehearsing!
A new Region 12 venue in Sparks, Nevada! The stage was set for a bounty of talent representing Pacific Empire Chorus. At Friday’s Quartet Competition, PEC had five foursomes singing and strutting their stuff. There were first timers Vocal Ventures and Shine who dazzled us with their new selections. Dressed as nuns, the Stevens Sisters led us on a MISSION to find new Sweet Adeline members, giving us many laughs along the way. Surprise! took home 3rd place honors with their sweet harmonies and vibrant showmanship. And Pdq delighted us with their hilarious Parisian restaurant revue which snagged them 1st place in the Open Division.
