With Regionals over and summer officially here, the women of Pacific Empire Chorus are in full fun mode spending time learning new tunes for our November ‘60s show and having a little down time to relax and enjoy each other. So what have we been up to? Our annual Recognition Dinner (themed “Everything’s Coming Up Roses”) was held in May at San Rafael Joes and was the perfect ending to a challenging and fun filled year. After cocktails and a delicious dinner, the real show began! It takes a village to run a chorus which was clearly demonstrated with so many members receiving small gifts and being honored for stepping up to help. PEC member extraordinaire Linda Feeney was voted our “Empress” of the year for her full on dedication to our chorus. She consistently displayed initiative, enthusiasm, and hard work all year long, wearing many different hats and helping in so many different ways. Congrats, Linda! The night ended with our dearly loved quartet Surprise serenading us with their sweet sounds. Fast forward to June and our annual A Cappella Workshop which brought in new faces to sing with us. The day began with director Patty Pennycook giving prospective new members a brief intro to the tools and techniques of barbershop harmony followed by snippets of some of the best a cappella groups around. Sectionals followed where we spent time helping our new singers learn their parts to our workshop up tune. After breaking for lunch, the day ended with THE SHOW. It was indeed a Crash Course in A Cappella Technique with each new singer learning the basics of barbershop harmony and ending their day having performed an entire song with other chorus members. It was a fun and inspiring day for all of us. We’re so proud to be Region 12 Mid-sized Champions and we have a busy summer ahead including performances at the Marin County Fair in July and at our Napa Valley Harmonizers BBQ Singout in August. Awesome Joe Connelly comes to town to coach us this summer, too! Stay tuned for more exciting news including the scoop on our ‘60s Concert scheduled for November 12.
